Foreign Language Training Centre

What We Do!

The Learning Home is a foreign language development centre that offers short courses for children aged six to fourteen in English, maths, science, computers, environmental studies, and Spanish.

We aim to extend each pupil’s vocabulary and academic understanding through a communicative approach, as we believe there is no more effective way to develop language than to use and apply it within its context.

Pushing Pupils' Progress

Our centre has been designed to create a safe and productive environment so children experience a ‘school-like’ atmosphere throughout their studies. The pupils’ progress is at the forefront of everything we do. Therefore, we guarantee the following, for each pupil, in order to accelerate their learning:

  • Qualified Teachers (Internationally Accredited to graduate-level)
  • Small class sizes (No more than 16 pupils per class)
  • Modern classroom facilities with all books and stationery included
  • Access to a computer within the centre
  • Access to online learning platforms so learning can continue at home

Our Ethos

We believe every child is entitled to the highest level of education possible. Therefore, we aim for the highest standards for our pupils daily by providing activities they can engage in, exposing them to each topic’s language, and allowing them to improve their academic understanding whilst developing their vocabulary.

We value the advantage of small class sizes and know this can significantly impact a child’s academic progress. We believe that 12-16 pupils per class is ideal for varied learning approaches, allowing pupils to experience working in pairs, multiple group sizes, and independently.

Our small-class-size policy means our teachers have a manageable number of personalities/ abilities to focus on, creating the ideal conditions for assessing each child’s social and academic progress.

Furthermore, all our teaching staff are qualified up to Bachelor Degree level, have received thorough training in pedagogy, and have a wealth of experience, so their expert delivery is pitched accurately for their cohort.

Your Options

The Learning Home understands the vulnerable nature of change for expat families, so we offer three options to suit your family’s needs.

Flexible

Sign up for individual courses to suit your child’s needs in conjunction with what they are studying at home. No deposit required. You must commit to the full four weeks of any subject per block (Please, see our individual course fees and arrange a meeting to discuss your child's timetable).

Block-by-Block

This option allows your child to access our full schedule in four-week blocks. It is the ideal option for expat families who know they will only be in the area for several months. It will give your child an enriched education whilst away from their usual routine.

Ten-Block-Bundle

Sign up to our whole year's academic calendar and your child will receive a discounted offer for each block. Please refer to our current fee policy for more information.

The Learning Home's Story

The Learning Home opened its doors in 2018 and was established by Emma and Joeli Ravai. Both founders are fully qualified teachers who had over 30 years of UK teaching experience between them before boarding the plane to Vietnam in 2014.

Like many people before them, they fell in love with Da Nang and were determined to stay, regardless of having two children, aged 5 and 3. During the settling-in period, it became clear there was a lack of schooling options for foreign children. As a result, they made the natural decision to home-school.

While valuing the importance of a strict routine and wanting to create a friendship group for their children, more and more families in the same situation started to inquire and join the group.

As a result, Emma and Joeli started working with the City Education Department of Da Nang and were able to satisfy all legal requirements.

Then, in September 2018, the local authorities granted the licence, and the centre has been growing and serving the community ever since.
